Sister-in-law files FIR against TV actress Smita Bansal & her family, says she was tortured for dowry
TV actress Smita Bansal’s sister-in-law has filed a case under section 498(A) against her in-laws and the actress at the Mahila Thana in Gurgaon. According to the FIR, Megha Gupta, the complainant, has alleged that Smita and her family took away the former’s jewellery and money.
Megha had got married to Smita’s brother Saurabh in 2009, and the couple was staying in London. This year, Megha came back to her mother’s house in Gurgaon after a fallout with her husband, and said that she was tortured for dowry. Meanwhile, Saurabh filed for divorce. Smita’s sister-in-law approached the Gurgaon police in October, and then the complainant was counselled, which failed to yield results. Finally, FIR number 53 was registered on Friday against Smita and her family. The police has started investigating the case.
Smita refused to comment on the issue. Her husband, TV director Ankush Mohla, tells us, “The police hasn’t gotten in touch with us and we are also getting to know about the complaint through the media. No one has contacted us from the police station, so we have no idea whether the news is fabricated or whether there’s any truth in it. Until and unless we know what’s it about, or we get a copy of the FIR, we don’t know what to believe. Right now, we have no comments. It’s come as a shock to us and there’s not an iota of truth in all this. How is someone accusing us of all this? I hope that the media hears both sides of the story. People are clicking pictures the paper cuttings and sending them to us from Gurgaon. We don’t know what is happening. Right now, we cannot comment since we don’t know what the charges are. We believe in the judicial system, and once they contact us, we will talk about the case and the truth will come out then.”
