RPF raids travel firm, seizes tickets
CHENNAI: Railway Protection Force raided a travel firm in Sowcarpet on Sunday, seized tatkal tickets worth 38,427 and arrested the owner. They also seized 21 filled reservation forms, a receipt book and some envelopes.
The raid on K P Travels was conducted after a tip-off that the agency was carrying out tatkal booking and supplying tickets from IRCTC. An official said the agency was reserving tatkal tickets and re-selling them at a higher rate. Only authorised travel agents are allowed to book railway tickets.
A railway official said the crackdown was part of the drive against touts and illegal ticket agents. “In spite of repeated crackdowns, changes in booking timings and increasing ticket cancellation charges, travel agents continue to serve travellers because of the demand for berths,” he added.
