Mamata Banerjee has imported terror to Bengal: Siddharthnath Singh
The Opposition alleged that the ruling party had been shielding anti-national elements.
“Mamata Banerjee has imported terror to Bengal after she came to power in 2011. Anti-national activities have significantly increased across the state after the TMC came to power,” senior BJP leader Siddharthnath Singh said.
Singh alleged that the state government was encouraging infiltration for garnering votes and was randomly distributing voter identity cards for their electoral interests.
“The TMC leader has been an ISI agent, who has been operating from Kolkata. The Khadragarh blast also happened at the house of a local TMC leader in Burdwan,” he added.
Meanwhile, TMC leader and West Bengal Panchayat Minister Subrata Mukherjee termed the allegations as meaningless and said, “We are naturally positioned at the centre of all criticism as we are in power. But it should not be like that. There has to be a proper logic behind everything. Is it possible to crosscheck the details of everyone who supports the TMC? Terrorism has no religion and boundaries. These anti-Indian elements mostly function from undercover and it is very difficult identify them in a political structure. Only security agencies can do that with proper evidence. The Opposition can only blame us if we back the arrested ISI agents. We are not safeguarding anybody arrested in connection with the alleged spying.”
The Kolkata STF on Sunday arrested three suspected ISI agents. The trio was identified as Ashfaque Ansari, his father Irshad Haidar Ansari and Ashfaque’s maternal uncle Jahangir Khan. Ashfaque was a leader of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad, the TMC’s student wing, at Harimohan Ghosh College. He was the general secretary of the students’ union in 2012 and is a third year student of political science.
The student leader’s father Irshad is also a Trinamool labour arm leader at Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineering (GRSE) and a popular face in the locality. He works as a contract labourer with the ship manufacturing unit. Sources said the trio was allegedly involved in supporting suspected ISI agent Mohammad Eizaz in getting fake Indian identity proofs.
Police said several fake passports of Pakistan, Bangladesh and India along with many important documents, secret designs of various war ships and counterfeit currency worth Rs 5 lakh were recovered from the accused. The accused were produced in Bankshall Court on Monday and have been remanded to STF custody till December 14.
Meanwhile, CPI-M Rajya Sabha member Ritabrata Banerjee said a huge amount of money that was looted in multi-crore Saradha chit-fund scam was channelled to fund terror camps in neighbouring Bangladesh.
“Bengal has become a haven for many terror modules, thanks to the Trinamool Congress. They are encouraging subversive elements so that they can get help to remain in power,” said senior CPI(M) leader Robin Deb.
