Noida plays vital role in green UP drive
NOIDA: UP receives the Guinness Book of World record for the largest number of saplings distributed in a day. GB Nagar plays crucial role in making UP green.Over 50 percent of Noida has green cover. Four lakh trees have been developed in the past three years. Noida is developed on 20 thousand hectare land and out of 10 thousand hectare land is green. Old sectors in Noida have 10 and 20 percent green lungs while new sectors have upto 30 percent green cover. Noida Authority has also planned NCR’s greenest sector, which is Sector 150. The Sector will have over 70 percent green coverage.
Noida and Greater Noida industrial development authorities chairman Raman said out of 10 lakh plants, 59 thousand and 60 plants sapling was conducted in four sites in Greater Noida on November 7. “Our target was 55 thousand but we achieved four thousand extra plants saplings,” Raman said that target was to complete in eight hours but due to public participation including children and villagers, the authority achieved it in just four hours.
He said Greater Noida industrial development authority is only planting 1.5 lakh plants in the Surajpur wetland. He said various varieties of fruits and medicinal trees like mango, amla, tamarind, jamun, neem, etc to be planted across Noida and Greater Noida. Our intention to develop it as one of the best wetland in the country.
Notably, Noida has become India’s first planned with maximum green coverage in India, over 50 percent of Noida has green cover. Noida is developed on 20 thousand hectare land and out of 10 thousand hectare land is green. Despite massive development projects including roads, flyover, underpasses and metro line expansion, Noida’s green cover in the past three years have been increased.
In the past three years over four lakhs trees have been developed. Old sectors in Noida have 15 to 20 percent green lungs while newly sectors have 30 percent green cover.
Raman said, Noida has 20 thousand hectare land. “Out of 20 thousand hectare, five thousand hectare falls in river bed where no concrete construction activity is allowed and 15 thousand hectare acquired land nearly 35 percent is green which is 5250 hectare,” Raman said.
“There is 18 percent green cover is incorporated in Noida’s 2031 mater plan. But this 18 percent does not cover the allotted land and only covers parks, water bodies, etc. As per the Noida Authority building bylaws, which is considered as ‘Geeta’ of Noida, allows 30 percent covered area in group housings and institutional plots and 70 percent has to be leave green. So if we incorporate 70 percent green in allotted group housings and institutional plots, this figures crosses 35 percent of the 15 thousand hectare,” Raman added.
For massive green cover, Raman gives credit to the residents and dedication of development authorities in the region.
It is pertinent to mention that in the coming days green cover in Noida will increase as massive plantation drive is going on and Noida Authority has taken up many steps to encourage green coverage like huge parks and ensure aximum green coverage in the sectors. Old sectors in Noida has 10 and 20 percent green lungs while new sectors have upto 30 percent green cover. Noida Authority has also planned NCR’s greenest sector, which is Sector 150. The Sector will have over 70 percent green coverage.
Raman believes that latest drive of Noida will further increase green cover in the city. “Noida’s punch line and fundamental is green and clean. Residents participation will add more feather to Noida cap. Our intention is to develop Noida as India’s best planned green city,” Raman added.
According to a study of NCR planning board based on Forest survey of India, green cover in Noida has been increased. As per the master plan, 70% of the total development on Noida Expressway and Yamuna Expressway is to be green.
