PM Modi at ASEAN Summit: It’s India’s turn now to do its bit for Asia’s resurgence
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday addressed the ASEAN business summit in Kuala Lumpur and said the “21st century belongs to Asia”.

- India has taken initiatives to ensure transparency. I invite you to come and see the change in India.
- Going further, I want to assure you that India is committed to protect Intellectual Property Rights of all innovators.
- We have begun institutional and structural reforms – in agriculture, housing, transport, financial inclusion, investment.
- We have launched a ‘Housing for All’ program. It involves building 20 million urban houses and 29.5 million rural houses.
- In a break with over 65 years of tradition, we have involved India’s states in foreign policy.
- Reform for me is just a way station on the long journey to the destination.The destination is the transformation of India.
- When I analyse the ASEAN miracles, I find small and big countries both have done well.
- My engagement with ASEAN started as soon as I took over as PM.
- It was obvious that reforms were needed when my government took over.
- World economy isn’t doing well, success of Indian economy is a result of series of well thought out policies.

PM Narendra Modi meets Chinese Premier Li Keqiang in Kuala Lumpur. - Modi is also expected to address ASEAN Business and Investment Summit soon.
- The Indian prime minister was received by the High Commissioner of India to Malaysia TS Tirumurti.
- “Reached Kuala Lumpur. Today’s programmes include ASEAN Business & Investment Summit, 13th ASEAN-India Summit & one-to-one meetings,” Modi had tweeted upon his arrival.
- Modi will also hold talks with top leadership of Malaysia, including his counterpart Najib Razak, on ways to ramp up bilateral cooperation in a range of areas including defence and security and take the strategic ties to a new level. The two sides are likely to sign a number of MoUs.
- Combating terrorism is likely to be one of the key issues at the 10th East Asia Summit as nations, shocked by the recent horrific Paris terror attacks, try to step up efforts to stem the menace.
- Modi was greeted by a large crowd outside his hotel with placards, banners and waving Indian flags. As the Prime Minister’s car rolled in, the crowd burst out into chants of ‘Modi Modi’ as the security tried to contain the large crowd.
- PM Narendra Modi arrived in Malaysia to attend the 10th ASEAN-India Summit and 13th East Asia Summit on Friday.
