Income Tax raids Hira Group in Chhattisgarh
RAIPUR: In a major operation to uncover undeclared wealth, Income tax (Investigation wing) officials on Wednesday raided over two dozen premises of a leading Chhattisgarh industrial group, Hira, across Maharashtra, Delhi, Rajasthan, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Raipur.
Majority of the raids were cantered in Raipur, where over 100 IT sleuths arrived today early morning from Bhopal by a chartered AIR India flight. The officials swooped on the office and residential premises of the promoters of the group, which has interests in steel, mining, cement and power.
According to officials, the search and seizure operations had led to the recovery of several incriminating documents, which have been and sealed. Officials confirmed that the raids were conducted on a tip off of huge tax evasion by Hira Group.
Talking to TOI, a senior official of Income tax department (Investigation unit) said searches were initiated from Chhattisgarh and extended to other states. Besides, the factories and offices of Hira group in Urla, Siltara, Ravan Bhata and Corporate office in Pandari, raids were also conducted at the residences of promoter in Samta Colony, Civil lines, Anupam Nagar, Shankar Nagar and Fafadih chowk, Raipur.
The raids are being carried out by almost 150 personnel of IT department of Delhi, MP, and Chhattisgarh. The operation commenced at 6 AM and was underway till the filing of the report.
Almost 160 CRPF officials were also involved for search operation.
According to information, Hira Group is a conglomeration of 15 companies across India and operates across seven business verticals of Steel, Ferro Alloys, Energy, Mining, cement, Technology and Real Estate. Group companies Godawari Power and Ispat Ltd, and Hira Ferro Alloys Ltd are listed on Bombay Stock Exchange and National Stock Exchange. The business group is owned by six Agrawal brothers.
