Income tax raids on fish exporters in Veraval
AHMEDABAD: Officials of the I-T department on Tuesday conducted raids at multiple premises of two prominent fish exporters in Veraval. As many as 17 premises of marine product exporters Gopal Sea Foods and Keshodwala Foods were raided. Tax evasion worth several lakhs has been detected and the raids will continue till Wednesday.
“This is the first time we are raiding fish exporters in the state. During our investigation, we found anomalies in their tax deposits. These companies have turnover of Rs 200 crore-Rs 300 crore and are biggest exporters from the region,” said an I-T official. The houses of owners of these firms Lakhan Damji Bhensala (Gopal Sea Foods) and Mohammad Nadeem Yusuf Merchant (Keshodwala Foods) were also raided.
