Coal scam: CBI registers 19th FIR in the case
New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday filed the 19th first information report (FIR) in the coal block allocation case against Mumbai-based Topworth Urja and Metals Ltd (formerly Shree Virangana Steels Ltd), its director and other unknown persons.
“The case is an outcome of the PE (preliminary enquiry) to look into allegations of irregularities in the coal block allocation during 1993-2005,” a CBI official said.
The agency is conducting raids at four places in Nagpur and one each in Yavatmal and Mumbai, the official added.
A company spokesperson denied any knowledge of a CBI raid on its premises.
Topworth Group’s website describes it as “one of India’s fastest growing conglomerates with over 2,500 employees, revenues exceeding $1 billion and a global footprint,” with interests in steel, semi-finished steels and sponge iron.
