GMR Group Offices Hit by Raids on Tax ‘ Evasion’
THE Income Tax ( I- T) department on Thursday cracked down on the GMR Group to carry out searches on the company’s business premises in Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Bangalore for suspected tax evasion. Sources said that the operations were being conducted by the Hyderabad unit of the tax department.
A team of 100 I- T officials was involved in the search and seizure operations on the GMR Group as part of the effort to gather evidence.
The I- T team has seized documents and would further scrutinise papers and payment details related to tax deduction at source to ascertain if the company has been dodging taxes.
The group currently is operating the Delhi and Hyderabad airports and has a global presence in several countries, including Turkey and South Africa. …
