Katy woman gets 10 years for sexual assault
A Katy mother of three pleaded guilty Thursday to aggravated sexual assault of a child and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Dina Marie Blakley, 38, must serve five years of her sentence before she is eligible for parole, said prosecutor Darin Darby.
“She wanted to save her family any undue embarrassment if this case went to trial,” said John Floyd, her attorney. “She was concerned about everyone in the case. I know she has a lot of regrets.”
Had she gone to trial and been convicted, she would have faced a sentence ranging from probation to 99 years in prison, Darby said.
“I felt like justice was accomplished by having her go to prison,” he said.
Blakley was arrested in August 2006 after the victim told his older sister about the abuse, police said. Police said Blakley had told the now-16-year-old that she was pregnant, which is why he confided in his sister.
A paternity test was ordered. Darby said he could not disclose the results of the test because the information is not public, but the grand jury had the test results when it indicted Blakley.
Had the case gone to trial, Darby said, he had DNA experts who would have testified to establish paternity.
The alleged abuse began when the boy was 11 and ended when he was 13. He was 15 years old when Blakley was arrested.
At the time Blakley was arrested, her daughter was 14 years old, and her two sons were 4 years old and 18 months.
Blakley, occasionally separated from her husband at the time of the abuse, and the boy’s mother were friends and regularly took turns baby-sitting each other’s children.
The abuse apparently occurred at Blakley’s home in the 22000 block of Birch Point, police said.
Blakley’s husband and mother are caring for the Blakley children, Floyd said.
