I-T raids on offices of MDH group
NEW DELHI: Income Tax officials on Wednesday conducted raids on at least 50 offices and residential premises of the Rs 150 crore MDH group of companies across the country and reportedly seized substantial cash and documents.
The residences of group chairman Dharampal and his son and managing director Rajeev Gulati in Delhi’s posh Vasant Vihar locality were among the properties raided.
The group’s stockists and dealers besides its factories and offices in Bikaner in Rajasthan, Gurgaon and Kirti Nagar in Delhi were included in the search and seizure operation. Roopak Masala, a group company owned by one of Dharampal’s relatives, was also raided.
This is the second major operation conducted by the I-T department in the last one week. On November 15, I-T sleuths had raided a leading real estate developer and reportedly unearthed over Rs 40 crore of concealed income.
The real estate developer has a chain of five-star hotels in the capital and the raids were conducted following specific information on their alleged undervaluation and misdeclaration of income.
In the current financial year, the I-T department’s Delhi investigation units have unearthed over Rs 70 crore in just two raids. A month ago, a jeans manufacturer had disclosed concealed income of Rs 25 crore following raids. Some raids were conducted on the basis of hawala transactions that these groups had indulged in.
