Sex offender returned to prison
A man who raped a seven-year-old girl is back in prison after breaking his licence by loitering outside a school.
William Blower, 51, was arrested in the Beeston area of Leeds after police were tipped off by a Sunday newspaper.
The Home Office confirmed that Blower, from Holbeck in Leeds, had been recalled and returned to prison.
He was on licence after serving six years of a nine-year sentence. Since his release he has been running a scrap metal business in the Harehills area.
Public protection
A spokeswoman for the West Yorkshire Probation Service, which has responsibility for monitoring sex offenders on parole, said the police notified them after the newspaper had given them information.
The Probation Service in turn notified the Home Office and they jointly decided Blower had breached the conditions of his licence.
The police then arrested him and he was taken back to jail, she said.
“It is part of our public protection system,” the spokeswoman added.
