US flight still uncertain
NEW DELHI: The $500 million deal with Air Sahara would surely give Jet Airways a larger share of the pie called Indian skies, but government officials said it’s unlikely to ensure Naresh Goyal a smooth landing on the American tarmac – his long-unfulfilled dream.
“There would not be any issue with transferring the domestic flight rights of Air Sahara to Jet Airways. It’s a regulatory matter regarding change of ownership of an airline. But when it comes to sovereign rights for flights to US, there might be a slight problem as it has to be cleared by the American authorities,” a government official said.
Jet Airways’ plans to cruise into the US skies were stalled last year when an American namesake moved authorities alleging that Goyal’s airline has links with al-Qaida and global terrorist Dawood Ibrahim.
