India studies UK offer for FTA with EU
NEW DELHI: “India is looking into the UK proposal for India-EU free trade agreement,”said commerce minister Kamal Nath.
He, at a meeting with UK trade minister Ian Pearson, said India was open to all the ideas that enhances its trade engagement, Pearson raised the issue of access to their banks and equal treatment in India as also high customs duties on wines and spirits.
Pointing at the non-tariff barriers in UK markets, Nath wanted UK to modify its rules with regard to definition of whisky so that Indian whisky is treated as whisky and not as Rum or Gin as was being done at present.
