GoM may seek rebids for airports
NEW DELHI: An expert committee under Delhi Metro chief E Sreedharan has recommended that all the five consortia – which could not pass the selection process for developing Delhi and Mumbai airports – be asked to submit rebids within 15 days. The five bidders include Reliance.
If the option is found feasible, the delay might be minimised. Or else, Delhiites and Mumbai-kars will have to wait for at least one more year for the bidding process to get over (this round has so far taken over 18 months since the bids came in). Work on the airports will begin only after that.
Apart from heightening the popular exasperation with shabby airports, the situation opens up the scope for national embarrassment if the Delhi airport is not modernised by the time of the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
