Computer sales up 36% at 2.3 million in Apr-Sep
NEW DELHI: Sound economic growth and buoyant buying sentiment have pushed up PC sales by 36 per cent, at 2.3 million, during the first half (H1) of this fiscal (2005-06).
This has led the hardware industry association Mait to revise its annual projections to 4.7 million units, from 4.25 million, by March end.
The laptop, printer and other monitor sell also went up. People bought more laptops, laser printers and bigger monitors and the growth came largely from the small towns and cities.
Computer sales in home segment however declined by 7 per cent, a trend which Mait said was ‘in consonance’ with the consumer durables industry. Intrestingly, household segment including home-offices showed 12% growth.
Top four metros accounted for 30 per cent computer sales, with 16 per cent growth in consumption. The rest was accounted for by smaller towns and cities, which showed a growth of 44 per cent.
Notebooks (laptops) sales have nearly doubled over H1 of previous fiscal, recording 94 per cent growth at 1.53 lakh units.
