Trai issues paper on convergence
NEW DELHI: Rapid advancements in telecom and IT are changing the way people gather information, communicate and entertain themselves.
These changes have brought together TV, radio, phone and PCs in such a manner that existing rules and regulatory mechanisms may soon prove to be hindrances, rather than enablers of convergence.
To deal with these issues, Trai on Monday brought out a consultation paper on ‘Issues relating to convergence and Competition in Broadcasting and Telecommunications’.
It seeks to gather inputs from stakeholders by January 30 before finalising recommendations for a comprehensive policy. Broadly, the paper outlines ways convergence has evolved.
